Welcome to this website, which hopefully works as a better version of my previous blog, Carousel of Fantasies, and a wider archive of my work. There’s some information about me below, but if you’d like to get in touch, do drop me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, follow me on Twitter: @matttrueman.
I’m a freelance theatre critic and journalist, and write regularly for the Guardian, the New Statesman, Time Out and the Stage. I’ve also had work published in the Independent, the Financial Times and Theatre du Zeit among other publications.
“One of the UK’s best young writers about the theatre.” - Henry Hitchings, The Dabbler
In 2012, Dominic Cavendish and Aleks Sierz invited me to join TheatreVoice, an audio archive of interviews with leading theatre practitioners from the UK and around the world, as a co-editor. Along with Miriam Gillinson, I’m also theatre editor of the website Culture Wars.
“Trueman’s passion for theatre, and his uber-articulate prose, make his blog a consistently
challenging and thought-provoking place to be.” - Chris Wilkinson, The Guardian
In the past four years, I’ve also won five Allen Wright awards – three times in the reviews category and twice for features. The award is given for arts journalism at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by writers under the age of 30.
